Wales has a history of struggles with England and by 1650 most of the Welsh gentry appear to have been favouring the Royalists, perhaps with memories of Welshman Henry Tudor taking the British throne, but as one of the researchers shared "by the late 1600s it seems that the Welsh gentry were English in speech and British in outlook".
